Rafting the Kaweah

Saturday morning... we get checked in and suited up for the rafting trip. The northern part of the Kaweah is the steepest and fastest river in North America (that is rafted). Heather and I rafted the Kaweah about two years ago. Nick and Andy have rafted before, but not Class IV rapids. And this was Sean's first time white water rafting.

We arrive at the river to see our first rapid - a tough Class IV. We have our safety talk and then get into our raft.

That Brian, our guide for the day. Nice guy. Below: Nick and Andy. Andy is smiling - but not for long.

After about a minute of testing out our paddeling commands - we were off into the first rapid!

You can tell the size of the rapids and drops by comparing the size of the raft to the rapid - these are big rapids.

We had a great time. Andy is the only one that didn't go swimming throughout the day. The rest of us were all in a couple times. (Heather says she only went in once.) Nick went though an entire rapid by himself. The water was cold! The river is all snow melt.

We survived - only a couple bangs and scraps.

We had to get a picture of the "office". I liked the company that we went with - okay, so maybe not the most visually apealling, but you can tell that everyone working really loved what they were doing. That seems to make for a great day of rafting.

After a long day of rafting... it is a stop at the River View for something deep-fried to eat and a cold beer (soda for Sean).

It looks WONDERFUL! You know how we have such great white water around here. Try and do the Gauley in West Virgina every year.

Was expecting to see at least on picture of Sean screaming on the class IV! Diane pretty much looses here voice every trip.

Hope all is well. We may have to make a trip out your way to finally become on honest couple after 24 years. Take care. Love you Aunt Karen and Diane
