Sequoia National Forest

Heather, Sean and I went up to the Sequoia National Forest on Friday to see the sequoias and go hiking.

Moro rock is above. You can see the rock at every switchback as you enter and climb the road at the park.

The road follows the river for a while and then you start to see all of the sequoia rising above you. The sequoia is related to the redwood - the redwood is the tallest tree, while the sequoia has the greatest mass. They are huge and impressive.

You get a bit more of an idea of their size....

We did a short trip to see the General Sherman Tree. 2,200 years old. 1,340 tons.

Then we went into the forest a bit more. The forest ranger at the enterance to the park suggested we should hike to Little Baldy. A short, but steep hike. On our way, we passed several spots on the trail where there was still snow on the ground.

We saw several deer. At one point, we couldn't have been further than 20 feet away from a mother and her baby.

Snow-capped mountains. Just beautiful. The snow is what feeds the river we were rafting the next day.

We reach the top of Little Baldy.

The top of Little Baldy. you can see 11 mountain tops. The woman at the ranger station was right - you feel like you are on top of the world.
