‘How many gay people must God create before we accept that he wants them around?’

Minnesota state Rep. Steve Simon (D-St. Louis Park) testified before House committee on Monday against a bill that would seek voter approval to amend the state constitution to ban same-sex marriage.

Simon said, if sexual orientation is innate as science is showing us, and not a lifestyle choice, then God created gay people.

“If that is true … what does that mean to the moral force of your argument?” he asked. “How many gay people must God create before we accept that he wants them around?”

The House Civil Law Committee approved the bill by a vote of 10-7 along party lines — all Republicans voted for the measure.
