News Anchor Outraged Over Outing

A local Washington, D.C., news anchor threatened to punch gay blogger Michael Rogers in the face over the upcoming film Outrage.

Rogers, appearing on NewsChannel 8's Let's Talk Live on Wednesday afternoon, was confronted by Doug McKelway over the issue of outing secretly gay public figures. Rogers, who appears in Outrage to discuss outing politicians who hypocritically rail against gay rights while living closeted gay lives, is the editor of BlogActive.com and is referred to as "the most feared man on Capitol Hill" in the film.

During a heated debate over the issue of outing politicians, with Rogers saying that he would continue his crusade to point out hypocrisy on Capitol Hill and across the country, their argument reached an impasse when McKelway demanded that Rogers retract a statement he made that McKelway must think being gay is inherently bad if he thinks outing is so harmful. This is when McKelway said that he would "take [Rogers] out back and punch him across the face."

The debate cooled thereafter, as cohost Natasha Barrett attempted to keep the conversation civil by acting as a moderator.

After his appearance, Rogers wrote on his blog that McKelway clearly took the issue personally. "At one point I thought of saying to him, 'Relax girlfriend; Oh, I just love your bright pink tie,'" he wrote. "
