Donating Your Old Cell Phone for Moms on Mother's Day

Can't think of what to give Mom for Mother's Day?

If you can't find anything, maybe you can do something really cool in her honor. Something like donating your old cell phone. How, exactly, might this honor your mama, you wonder?

HopeLine has collection points at Verizon Stores across the country. When you use one of their drop off locations to recycle an old cell phone, the proceeds go towards providing wireless phones to survivors of domestic violence or cash grants to local shelters and non-profit organizations that focus on domestic violence prevention and awareness.

Couldn't be much more heartwarming than that, with Mother's Day coming up this Sunday. You can even read a few case studies of how the program has helped women. Plus, you're making sure that a gadget is properly reused or recycled. Great green gifting for moms and Mother Earth.

You don't even have to leave the house to donate. HopeLine offers a free printable mailing label so all you have to do is slap it on an envelope and send in your phone.

If you'd prefer the direct route, you can usually take your phone (with the charger!) directly to a women's shelter office. One doesn't need to have a connected service in order to dial 911 on a cell phone, and these donated phones can be literal life savers.
